PM4K NEWS 056: DELHI METRO PHASE-II TO BE READY BEFORE CWG

Continuing with the PM4K NEWS Series on the Commonwealth Games Project here’s another update.

NEW DELHI: The under-construction Delhi Metro phase-II, covering 125 km and connecting the airport from various points, will be ready before the Commonwealth Games next year in the national capital, a top official has said.
"The phase-II of the Metro project will be definitely ready by September next," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E Sreedharan told PTI on the sidelines of an award function here last night.
"We have already opened a 25-km stretch and another 8 km stretch will be opened next week," he said, adding, "Like this, every month one or the other line will be opened. This includes the high speed metro connections to airport, which will also be ready by September 2010."

PM4K NEWS 031: FLAG-OFF TODAY FOR NOIDA METRO

Continuing with the PM4K NEWS Series on the Delhi Metro Project here’s another update on Delhi’s Metro Project.

NEW DELHI: Residents of Noida have reason to cheer. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has certified Delhi Metro's Noida line as fit for use by commuters. The line will be opened for public use at 6 am on Friday. On Thursday, there will be a ceremonial flag-off by union urban development minister Jaipal Reddy and Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit at Akshardham Metro station. This will be followed by another inaugural function at Noida City Center Sector 32 station to be attended by UP chief minister Mayawati.

PM4K NEWS 024: DELHI-NOIDA METRO TO START RUNNING BY EOY 2009

Continuing with the PM4K NEWS Series on the Delhi Metro Project here’s another update on Delhi’s Metro Project.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Friday said its Delhi-Noida section will be operational by the end of 2009. ‘The metro on Yamuna Bank to Noida section is likely to start by the first week of December this year. The opening of the section depends on delivery of trains, which are likely to come by November, E.Sreedharan, DMRC managing director, told reporters here. The 13.1 km elevated Yamuna Bank-Noida stretch, with 10 stations, will be an extension of the existing Dwarka Sector 9 to Yamuna Bank section. The stretch was scheduled to be opened June 2009.

PM4K NEWS 018: ANOTHER DELHI METRO TRAIN DERAILS

NEW DELHI: A coach of the Delhi Metro derailed near the Yamuna Bank station in east Delhi on Sunday morning, disrupting train services temporarily, an official said. While no injuries were reported, a junior engineer has been suspended.
Two wheels of the front coach of a metro train went off the tracks near the Yamuna Bank station at 6.02 a.m., causing some panic among the passengers. This was the first train service of the day on the Yamuna Bank-Indraprastha-Dwarka line, said an official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

NEW DELHI: With the Delhi Metro probe panel finding serious fault with the design and material that led to a major accident at a construction site July 12, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to blacklist its design consultants and crack down on some senior officials, urban development minister S Jaipal Reddy informed the Lok Sabha Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: The inquiry report into the July 12 incident at the Metro construction site in Zamrudpur is a damning indictment of the way Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been cutting corners to meet deadlines, or even stay ahead of them. What DMRC made public on July 28 omits critical observations and conclusions in the report that put a huge question mark over DMRC's functioning and safety of the structures it has built.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) director E Sreedharan on Tuesday tabled the action taken report on the July 12 mishap on pillar 67 and announced that the tragedy occurred due to the design and material deficiencies. Sreedharan added, “We will finish all the projects linked to Phase II of Delhi Metro before commencement of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.”
